WRITTEN BY  Kara McKnight- 07 March 2012

We’re not out of the wintery woods yet! Keep Old Man Winter at bay by taking your vitamins and leave those colds and flus in the seasonal dust.

The heart of winter may be behind us but you and I both know that certain irritating elements of the season tend to stick around a little past their welcome (remember that random day of snowfall last week?). Which is why, despite the budding flowers and shining sun (most days), it’s important to still be prepared for the ways in which Old Man Winter can get you down.

Vitamins are among one of the best ways to keep your immune system up, running and fighting off any lingering winter ailments that you may encounter. So, here is a list of some of the Top Vitamins for Good Winter Health & Other Great Tips.

Listed among them: Vitamins A and D, B and C.

Achoo! If You Have A Cold, Here's What To Do

WRITTEN BY  Kara McKnight- 17 February 2012

Webber Naturals looks into what to do when you catch a cold.

Without fail, I tend to get a cold about twice a year (although last year was particularly awful, with two back to back colds in the summer on top of my usual two - boo!). However, usually, my first cold shows up sometime in the spring (which, unfortunately, means in the not too distant future); I usually don’t encounter the next one until the fall. My bi-annual cold starts off with a sore throat (that feels a little something like what I imagine swallowing razor blades would feel like), followed by the “sniffles” (to put it politely…) and ends with a booming cough. Not the most fun experience. Which is why I can appreciate the question: “What can I do to help me get through my cold with a little less suffering?”

Best solution: call in sick and take some time to get better. SELF magazine provides some tips on how to take care of yourself when you’re home sick from the office. Hopefully, you’ll be feeling better in no time!

You can also try Webber Naturals’ Cold-A-Tak when you feel that cold coming on!

Doctors are Googling the Answer!

WRITTEN BY  Kara McKnight- 16 January 2012

Doctors are using Google Flu Trends to help predict flu patterns.

Nowadays you can pretty much Google anything: gift ideas; directions; flu symptoms…and as it turns out, flu trends . So, it’s no surprise that doctors are jumping on the Google train.

According to TIME Heathland’s article, Google Helps Emergency Room Docs to Predict Flu Trends , doctors may soon be relying on the instantaneous nature of Google to help predict influenza trends. The article suggests that Google is providing relevant trends specific to individual hospitals, making mention of an article in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases. The article describes how a group of doctors in Baltimore relied on Google Flu Trends to anticipate the number of patients who would be coming in with flu symptoms, finding that the results were fairly accurate.

Curious about Google Flu Trends? Follow the link or…Google it!

Have you found Google Trends to be helpful in any way? Feel free to let us know how in the Comments below.

Reminder: if you feel yourself coming down with the flu (or if Google’s told you it’s the flu!), try Virus-A-Tak to help your body fight it off.
