Webber Naturals is in the community! Check out these photos from the West Vancouver Field Hockey Tournament!

Canada vs. Australia, with Webber Naturals on the sidelines, at the CANgaroo Clash!

Getting outdoors, joining a sports team and running around a field is a great way to stay in shape; excellent for your health. Vitamins and good nutrition help too, which is exactly what we wanted to promote a couple weeks ago in West Vancouver.

On September 10 (to be really specific), Webber Naturals was happily a sponsor at the CANgaroo Clash! The West Vancouver Field Hockey Club hosted Game 2 of the tournament for the official opening of Rutledge Field. It was a day full of athleticism, sportsmanship, and family fun!

Check out these photos of Canada vs. Australia! See the purple?

It's Webber purple! Now, some action shots...

10 Steps to Diet-conscious Barbecuing - Webber Naturals

Dr. Joyce Johnson
WRITTEN BY  Dr. Joyce Johnson- 17 August 2011

Surviving the End-of-Summer Barbecues Without Blowing Your Diet!

Webber Naturals expert Dr. Joyce Johnson is back with the skinny on keeping your BBQ's deliciously diet conscious.

Barbecues don't have to be a diet nightmare for you! The days of all-day grazing on fatty foods and washing them down with cool, calorie-laden cocktails are a thing of the past. You can take advantage of summer's fresh fruits and veggies and smarten up the grilled foods you choose. Turn your Labour Day barbecue into an easy diet-friendly social event that you can enjoy.

Here are ten easy steps to savoring a barbecue without ruining your diet:

1. Plan ahead and choose which foods you want to indulge in. Ask the host what is going to be served and set out a game plan for yourself. The ball is in your court to bring something healthy!

2. Fuel with fibre, like PGX, to keep your tummy filled! Adding PGX to your meal fill you up quicker and can help you consume less.

3. Hydrate! Drinking a large glass of water before eating a meal will slow you down and help reduce your caloric intake. Avoid dehydration. It can sap your energy and cause false-hunger signals.

4. Get your priorities straight! Fill your plate just once and choose wisely. Look at what’s on the table and take your time in deciding what to eat. If you love potato salad, indulge in a scoop and enjoy it. Don’t waste your calories on so-so food or treats that you can get year-round!

5. Eat protein! Barbecued chicken, lean meat, fish and beans are all great choices but remove the skin from chicken drumsticks or thighs and cut off any fat on chops or pieces of meat. Dietary protein helps control appetite, which ultimately keeps weight in check. Fill about one-quarter of your plate with lean protein.

6. Fill up on fruits and veggies, but don’t be fooled by the name “salad!” Turn your focus to summer salads, grilled vegetables, and prepared fruit plates. Pasta and rice salads are good choices if they haven’t been made with mayo or oily dressings. Potato salad and coleslaw should definitely be avoided! Load up on naturally low-calorie, low-fat produce; it should take up at least half your plate.

7. Have a seat. Be mindful and show your food some love. Research shows that if you eat while distracted, you’ll be less satisfied and are likely to eat more.

8. Beware of chips and dips! Many dips are made with mayo, oil or sour cream and are packed with calories. If available, stick to tomato or yogurt-based dips such as salsa or tzatziki.

9. Don’t be so hard on yourself! Eating healthy all the time is fantastic, but don’t set yourself up for failure by trying to be perfect all the time! Let yourself relax and allow some leeway in your diet. This will ensure that you have more fun and feel better about being healthy. You shouldn’t feel like your diet rules your life.

10. When you drink, be wise. Consuming alcohol can really add up the calories fast so try alternating your alcohol with lower-cal beverages like water. Pace yourself!

After you’re done eating, get up and play! Try a game of horseshoes, Frisbee or croquet to burn those extra calories. Have fun and Steer clear of the mindless munching. Fire up the grill and follow as many of these tips as you and you will have found the way to bond with family and friends without ditching you diet!
