Study: Resveratrol May Provide Pain Relief

WRITTEN BY  Margaret Peters- 03 October 2012

Resveratrol, the health benefactor in red wine, may preserve pain-relieving effects of morphine.

According to a recent study in the October issue of journal, Anesthesia & Analgesia, resveratrol may provide pain relief for those with chronic pain conditions and have developed a tolerance to morphine. Resveratrol, most commonly known as the reason red wine has health benefits, is a polyphenol compound known to possess antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The study suggests that resveratrol is a suitable alternative to morphine for pain management in rats who have become tolerant to the pain-relieving effects of morphine.

"If the findings are confirmed in humans, resveratrol might become a useful addition to clinical pain management approaches."
-ScienceDaily

The next step is to determine if these effects are similar in humans. Read the full article from ScienceDaily here.
