Advanced Info

Omega-3 essential fatty acids are required in our diet for support of physical, emotional and mental health. EPA and DHA, two members of the Omega-3 fatty acid family, are found abundantly in fish oil. An overabundance in consumption of trans-saturated and saturated fats coming from processed and packaged foods, and diets high in meat protein causes a nutritional imbalance, leading to a deficiency of Omega-3.

Omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to support brain function and reduce levels of serum triglycerides/tricylglycerols, helping to maintain cardiovascular health. Also, in conjunction with conventional therapy, omega-3 fatty acids help reduce the pain caused by rheumatoid arthritis in adults. frequently asked questions

  1. Is there any vitamin A or D in the omega-3 products?
Our Omega-3 Fish Oil products do not contain vitamins A or D unless labelled. The small amounts of naturally-occurring vitamins in these fish oils are removed during processing and purification.
  2. How much Omega-3 is in Cod Liver Oil?
Fish liver oils are excellent sources of preformed vitamin A and vitamin D, but they usually contain small amounts of essential fatty acids (EFAs) as compared to other fish sources like anchovies, sardines, and mackerel. The cod liver oil in Webber Naturals Lemon Meringue Omega-3 liquid provides naturally occurring EPA and DHA levels (100 mg of EPA and 133.3 mg of DHA per teaspoon) and also has vitamins A and D. Omega-3 Super Concentrate and Wild Alaskan Salmon & Fish Oil products from Webber Naturals are excellent sources of EFAs.
  3. Does natural ambient or fluorescent lighting affect the quality of fish oil packaged in clear bottles?
Our omega-3 fish oils have been rigorously tested and uphold the highest standards for product integrity when exposed to controlled and uncontrolled light conditions in clear bottles. Our entire line of natural health products are subject to a robust stability testing program on an ongoing basis to ensure they support their shelf-life assignment and meet the ongoing scrutiny of regulatory and industry bodies including the Natural and Non-prescription Health Products Directorate (NNHPD)/Health Canada, Food & Drug Association (FDA), Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and USP (Unites States Pharmacopeia).Because NNHPD mandates that supplements be labelled as “store in a dark place”, some consumers have expressed concerns about fish oil supplements packaged in clear bottles and exposed to light when stored on shelf. To address these concerns, an internal study was performed over a five-year period to test the quality and stability of encapsulated omega-3 fish oils stored in clear bottles and exposed to controlled and uncontrolled light conditions. The results support the quality and stability of our products in their current packaging configuration. There was no difference in quality and performance test measurements between samples of encapsulated omega-3 fish oil capsules in clear bottles exposed to uncontrolled light (both natural ambient and fluorescent lighting conditions) and encapsulated omega-3 fish oil capsules stored in dark conditions over a period of five years. We are committed to ensuring that all of our natural health products meet the highest quality industry standards and the expectations of consumers. We continue to perform additional studies to supplement the data we’ve already collected regarding encapsulated fish oil stored in clear bottles. All studies to date support the selection of clear packaging and associated shelf life assignment. Our additional testing also showed that natural and fluorescent light had no influence on fish oil oxidation. As a final note, the temporary light exposure of packaged products in typical manufacturer-to-retailer and retailer-to-consumer cycles is substantially less than what our test samples were exposed to. It’s safe to conclude that any concern regarding our products’ packaging delivery system is unwarranted. Statements mandated by NNHPD to store products “in a dark place” are made with excess caution and do not have a direct bearing on the integrity of our fish oil products.
  4. How do you guarantee the safety and purity of your fish oils?
Every ingredient we use as a raw material for our products is tested for purity, identification (so we know it IS what it is supposed to be), heavy metals, pesticides, and other contaminants in accordance with Canada’s Natural Health Products Directorate requirements and United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) guidelines. Our laboratories also test finished products for weight, disintegration time, uniformity, and verified potency. In-house testing facilities ensure that accurate test results can be obtained quickly and efficiently.
  5. Do I have to refrigerate omega-3 softgels?
Liquid oils high in polyunsaturates should be refrigerated after opening, but softgel capsule products only need to be stored in a cool and dry location. The oil inside the softgels is protected from light and oxygen and is preserved with vitamin E (natural tocopherols). Storing capsule products in a cool and dry location will ensure the oil is safe and stable up to expiry; refrigeration is not necessary. We have tested the products using accelerated temperature/humidity models as well as real-time testing under normal conditions to make sure that the product maintains freshness.
