What Does “Friend of the Sea®” Certified Mean?
Being eco-responsible means respecting the sources of our ingredients, whether these sources are land or sea. The latter, of course, is where we source ingredients such as our marine collagen and omega-3 oils.
To ensure we are meeting the highest standards when it comes to sustainably sourcing our omega-3s, we have them third-party certified. As a result, our RoyalRed® line of products has a Friend of the Sea certification.
Friend of the Sea is the leading certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the environment. The certification recognizes and awards sustainable practices in fisheries, aquaculture, fishmeal, and omega-3 fish oil.
Friend of the Sea is the only sustainable fisheries certification process recognized and supervised globally by National Accreditation Bodies (NABs), which conduct audits to ensure that strict Friend of the Sea standards are adhered to.
This means that the omega-3s in our RoyalRed line have been third-party verified as sourced from sustainably caught Antarctic krill.
Antarctic krill are harvested by regulated fishing fleets that do not include illegal, unreported, or unregulated fishing vessels.
The krill are harvested in accordance with the maximum annual sustainable harvest and are not harvested to the point of over-exploitation.
Friend of the Sea is a project under the World Sustainability Organization (WSO),which is an international non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to promoting environmental conservation. Along with its certification program, Friend of the Sea also promotes pilot projects related to sustainable shipping, whale and dolphin watching, and more.
